Streaming service Netflix plans to add video games to its subscription. They will appear in 2022.
The company invited Mike Verdu, a former employee of the gaming divisions of Electronic Arts and Facebook, to head the new division. He has worked on popular mobile games like The Sims and Plants vs Zombies, as well as Star Wars games.
According to the publication, video games will appear in the new genre section, as it was on the platform with documentaries or stand-up shows. The service will not charge additional fees for games.
Netflix has experimented with games in the past: there are two games based on Stranger Things, and the service has published several interactive films, including the Telltale miniseries Minecraft: Story Mode.
