All applications from the regions of Russia for donated blood have been satisfied, there is no shortage, if any of the subjects encounters difficulties, measures will be promptly taken, said Tatyana Gaponova, chief freelance transfusiologist of the Russian Ministry of Health. Earlier, the Kommersant newspaper reported that Russia is threatened by a shortage of donated blood , which is associated with a massive vaccination campaign, since a potential donor is prohibited from donating blood between the first and second vaccinations against COVID-19 and another month after receiving the second component. She clarified that in the institutions of the Blood Service, there is no decrease in the number of donations in July-August 2021 compared to the same indicator in 2020. However, the need of medical organizations for the clinical use of donated blood and its components has increased by 16%, which is associated with the removal of restrictions on the provision of medical care in a planned manner, Gaponova explained.
