WASHINGTON, Aug 10 US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has appointed Amos Hochstein as Senior Advisor on Energy Security. «His immediate task will be to implement measures to reduce the risks posed by the Nord Stream 2 pipeline,» the head of the State Department said in a statement. Politico reporters in the spring reported that the White House was looking for Hochstein, who was categorically against the pipeline, was considered for this role, but at first he did not agree. Subsequently, the position of the American administration on Nord Stream 2 changed, President Joe Biden decided not to impose sanctions on the operator gas pipeline. 
The United States explained why Biden «allowed» the completion of Nord Stream 2, Nord Stream 2, Nord Stream 2, an almost completed pipeline from Russia to Germany with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The United States actively opposes it, interested in promoting its LNG to the EU countries, as well as Ukraine and Poland, which call the project political. Washington has imposed sanctions four times in an attempt to obstruct its implementation, but construction has reached its final stages and should be completed by the end of the summer. In July, Berlin and Washington issued a joint statement that the project must ensure continued transit through Ukraine beyond 2024. Germany also pledged to seek sanctions against Russia «if the Kremlin uses energy exports as a weapon.»
