MOSCOW, 11 Aug. Kiev's statements about the possibility of deploying US air defense systems in Ukraine are provocative and do not meet the fundamental interests of the people, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Reintegration of the Uncontrolled Territories of Ukraine Alexei Reznikov suggested deploying US air defense systems in Ukraine. At a meeting with the head of the American Jamestown Foundation Glen Howard during a working visit to the United States, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that Kiev is concerned about the alleged intentions of the Russian Federation to place nuclear weapons in Crimea. Reznikov also urged to strengthen sanctions against companies involved in the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project and prevent its launch.
«This, it seems to me, is proof in this case of what we have been talking about for many years, and what the Kiev regime was trying to refute — namely, proof of the provocative policy of Ukraine and in the region towards Russia,» Zakharova said on the air of the First channel.
“The main goal or the main essence of the policy in the region, which is being built by the collective West, primarily the United States of America, is the so-called attempt to endlessly play the Ukrainian card in the context of our country. This is another very strong proof, so to speak, of our theses. Why does the Ukrainian people need this? So until now, no one has answered. The Ukrainian people do not need this. This contradicts the fundamental interests of the citizens of Ukraine, no matter what political views they hold, «she added. Zakharova noted that such statements by Kiev are in the interests of that part of the lobbying group of the collective West, which advocates the destabilization of the situation in Ukraine in the context of the Russian factor.
