«It is important for us that the border with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan has also been taken under the control of the Taliban. * All the checkpoints and the threats that came from Afghanistan earlier are drug trafficking, this is the penetration of terrorists into our country through Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and, of course, (threats) from this does not diminish, «he said at the Territory of Meanings youth forum.
As noted by Shoigu, it is important for Russia that its allies in the CSTO are ready for this. «For this we, of course, are doing everything,» he added. The armed forces of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, according to the minister, must be ready to repel possible provocations by the Taliban *, despite assurances from this movement not to make such attempts. He also recalled Russian military bases in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. «Most of the officers of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan are trained in our higher educational institutions. We are also engaged in the modernization of the army of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan,» Shoigu said. 
The Afghan military repulsed the offensive of the Taliban on the city of Mazar-i-Sharif militants. In recent months, the Taliban have seized large swaths of rural and border areas and launched attacks on major cities. The escalation is taking place against the backdrop of the withdrawal of American troops, which the Russian Foreign Ministry called recognition of the failure of the US mission in Afghanistan.
