Rostourism commented on the crash of the Mi-8 helicopter in Kamchatka

MOSCOW, 12 Aug. After the crash of the Mi-8 helicopter, an additional check of compliance with safety requirements in the provision of tourist services in Kamchatka will be carried out, Rosturizm reports.

«Until the causes of the crash are clarified, the relevant authorities will conduct an additional check of compliance with safety requirements in the provision of tourist services,» the message says.

On Thursday, a Mi-8 helicopter with tourists on board fell into the Kuril Lake in the south of Kamchatka. Onboard there were three crew members and 13 passengers, including one child. Eight people survived. The helicopter delivered four casualties to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Mi-8 lies at the bottom of the lake at a depth of 137 meters. Searches are continuing on the lake, although, as the governor of the region Vladimir Solodov said, there is practically no chance of finding the remaining passengers alive.

«Rosturizm is in touch with the government of the Kamchatka Territory. According to local authorities, tourist helicopter flights in the region have been suspended on August 12 and 13,» the Rostourism also said in a statement.

«The helicopter was chartered by a regional tour operator for the excursion. Transportation is insured. The costs associated with the victims will be covered by the insurance company in accordance with the carrier's insurance obligations,» adds the department.
