Flying through two tunnels: the pilot set five world records. Video

The Italian has been preparing for over a year to be the first in the world to fly through two tunnels.

Italian stunt pilot Dario Costa flew a racing plane through two tunnels and set five world records.

On Saturday, September 4, at the helm of the improved Zivko Edge 540, the pilot flew through two narrow closed Catalca road tunnels in the vicinity of Istanbul.

He broke away from the asphalt just a meter and picked up a speed of 245 km / h. The entire flight lasted 44 seconds and brought Dario the Guinness World Record for the longest tunnel through which an aircraft flew (1,730 m).

He also made the first flight through a tunnel by an airplane, the longest flight with a continuous obstacle (1,730 m), the first flight of an airplane through two tunnels, and the first takeoff of an airplane from a tunnel.

After leaving the tunnel, Costa whirled the ship in a victorious loop.

“I’ve never flown through a tunnel in my life — no one has done that — so I had no idea if everything would go as planned or if I would have to improvise. <…> For me, this is another dream that has come true, “the pilot said.

Before the record-breaking flight, he trained for over a year at the Red Bull Athlete Performance Center (APC) in Austria. Dario's mentor is Hungarian aerobatics pilot Peter Beseniei, famous for his participation in the Red Bull Air Race and flying upside down under the Chain Bridge in Budapest.
