The parliament called on to conclude a direct gas contract with Russia. Earlier, in early September, ex-minister for housing and communal services of Ukraine, deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Oleksiy Kucherenko, said that an energy catastrophe awaits the country in a few months. According to him, two-thirds of Ukraine's gas needs, no matter how much the authorities want, will have to buy at market value. Since November 25, 2015, Ukraine has not been buying gas from Russia directly, but uses reverse procurement schemes from Europe. In January, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said that the government did not intend to resume direct purchases of gas from the Russian Federation.
