KYIV, 15 Dec. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine renamed on Wednesday the city of Volodymyr-Volynsky in Volyn region into Volodymyr, the corresponding resolution was supported by 348 parliamentarians with the required minimum of 226 votes. Earlier, the deputies of the city council of Volodymyr-Volynsky in the Volyn region of Ukraine voted to return the city's historical name – Volodymyr. According to the procedure, the decision of the local council must be approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. “Rename the city of Volodymyr-Volynsky in the Volyn region into the city of Vladimir”, – the resolution says. Volodymyr-Volynsky was previously called Volodymyr, in 1795 the city became part of the Russian Empire as one of district centers of the Volyn province.
