Former President of Moldova Igor Dodon was summoned to the Prosecutor General's Office for interrogation the case related to the theft of state money, they plan to bring him suspicion. The matter concerns the events of 2008, when Dodon was the first deputy prime minister and minister of economy. According to the investigation, at that time the management of the Energocom company, which is responsible for providing Moldova with electricity, entered into an agreement with employees of the department headed by him, the National Energy Regulatory Agency and several foreigners. The prosecutor's office believes that together they implemented a scheme that allowed the participants in the case to unreasonably inflate the purchase price of electricity and appropriate the difference. The preliminary damage to the state from this scheme is estimated at about $ 12 million. Igor Dodon was President of Moldova from 2016 to 2020, when he lost the elections to pro-European supporter Maia Sandu. The politician himself advocated maintaining relations with the European Union and strengthening strategic partnership with Russia. Subsequently, he was the chairman of the Socialist Party, and in the parliamentary elections he was one of the leaders of the bloc with the communists.
