An asteroid over the Earth MOSCOW, 2 Jan. Asteroid Apophis will fly by in the spring of 2029 in the orbit of geostationary satellites, but will not collide with the Earth. Denis Denisenko, an employee of the Department for the Study of the Galaxy and Variable Stars of the State Astronomical Institute named after P.K. Sternberg, told about this in an interview with the Zvezda TV channel. According to the astronomer, the celestial body was discovered in 2004 and even then the possibility of its fall to Earth was ruled out, at least , in the XXI century. «Neither in 2029, nor in 2036 it will definitely collide with the planet,» the expert explained. He also called for the data on the devastating consequences of the fall of the asteroid to be perceived as a projective scenario for the development of events. Two large asteroids are rushing to Earth at once. What to expect? «… Potential means that someday, perhaps, perhaps, someday it will collide with the Earth, but not in this life, as they say. In the 21st century, its collision with our planet is excluded,» the specialist concluded Earlier, VNII GOChS (part of the Ministry of Emergency Situations) warned of the approach to Earth in the spring of 2029 of the dangerous asteroid Apophis with a diameter of almost 400 meters and weighing about 30 tons. According to the ministry, in the event of a collision with the planet, the released energy will amount to 1,717 megatons, which is 30 times more than in the explosion of the most powerful Soviet thermonuclear bomb in the world, tested in 1961.
