TOKYO Jan 1 Heavy snowfalls that have hit western and northern regions of Japan during the last two days led to the cancellation of more than 230 flights, NHK reports, in particular, flights from the airport in the city of Sapporo on the island of Hokkaido were canceled. To clear the snow there, the administration had to close the runway for three hours, resulting in huge queues of people at Shin-Chitose Airport who were unable to fly on their flights and had to change tickets for subsequent flights. in a number of regions, the height of the snow cover exceeds one meter.
