Djokovic is a nine-time and current winner of the tournament. «Happy New Year everyone! I wish you all health, love and happiness. I had a fantastic time with my loved ones and today I am heading to Australia with permission to be exempted (from vaccinations),» wrote Djokovic. The first Grand Slam of the season requires all competitors to be vaccinated against the coronavirus or to have a medical exemption granted by an independent panel of experts. The 34-year-old Serb has repeatedly refused to disclose whether he was vaccinated against COVID-19. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison denied rumors that Djokovic would receive special permission to participate in the Australian Open.
