S.-PETERSBURG, January 6, Sergey Yaremenko. Two-time Olympic champion Vyacheslav Fetisov, arguing about the correctness of the match between Kazakhstan's Barys and Magnitogorsk Metallurg under the conditions of an emergency in Kazakhstan, said that sport is the ambassador of peace. On Wednesday Metallurg Magnitogorsk in Nur-Sultan lost to the Kazakh Barys (2: 3) in the KHL regular championship. In connection with the massive protests continuing in Kazakhstan, the meeting was held without spectators with a guarantee of safety for the teams and players from the representatives of the host side. After the match, «Metallurg» was not immediately able to fly out of the country, the flight with the team was delayed for more than an hour. On Thursday Moscow time, Metallurg reported that the plane had landed at the Magnitogorsk airport. “In such situations, we need to weigh the pros and cons during the match. Sport is an ambassador of peace. Maybe in this situation it is worth talking not about the result of the match, but about the unstable situation in general. I think in the future the league will monitor the situation and make an adequate decision on the next home matches of “Barys” — said Fetisov.
