Laboratory tests MOSCOW, Jan 7 The first 12 cases of infection with the omicron coronavirus strain were detected in Mongolia, said Tsolmon Bilegtsaikhan, director general of the National Center for Infectious Diseases of Mongolia. «Ten peacekeepers and two Mongolian citizens who arrived on flights from Istanbul to Ulan Bator and Bangkok to Ulan Bator have been confirmed to be infected with the omicron strain,» Bilegtsaikhan quoted the agency as saying MONTSAME. Earlier, the World Health Organization (WHO), following an emergency meeting, decided to classify a new variant of the coronavirus discovered in South Africa as causing concern. The new strain — B.1.1.529 — WHO called the Greek letter «omicron.» claim that omicron is more dangerous than delta, existing vaccines continue to be effective, WHO said in a statement.
