The hospitalization rate in pediatrics is the highest since any previous stage of the pandemic .
The number of US hospitalizations for children under the age of five with COVID-19 has risen in recent weeks to its highest level since the start of the pandemic. Such data are published in the published data of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding the age group that does not yet have permission to vaccinate, reports Chronicle.info with reference to RBC-Ukraine.
& # 171; An alarming trend is highlighting the need to get vaccinated & # 187 ;, & # 8212; said Rochelle Walenski, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
She noted that since mid-December, when the strain & # 171; Omicron & # 187; spread rapidly across the country, hospitalization rates for children skyrocketed.
According to CDC data from over 250 hospitals in 14 states, the hospitalization rate for children aged 5 to 17 is roughly 1 in 100,000.
& # 171; Overall, pediatric hospital admissions are the highest compared to any previous phase of the pandemic & # 187 ;, & # 8212; Walenski said.
She noted that no more than 50% of children aged 12 to 18 and only 16% of children aged 5 to 11 are fully vaccinated.
Growth trend hospitalization among children is driven by high hospitalization rates in five states: Georgia, Connecticut, Tennessee, California and Oregon, with the largest increases in Georgia, according to the CDC.
