New salaries and advanced training: what awaits the Ukrainian labor market in 2022

There is a shortage of workers in Ukraine again.

This year will become a logical continuation of the past with regard to what will happen in the labor market. Namely: workers will be in demand, in areas where wages have not been raised for a long time, this will happen, and the remote will not go anywhere. And yet, something new awaits us too. For example, a large number of companies are introducing programs to protect employee mental health. We will tell you in detail what awaits us on the labor market — 2022, Chronicle.info reports with reference to Vesti.

We urgently need workers

After the quarantine restrictions were lifted, many interested persons again had the opportunity to go to work abroad. As a result, there was a shortage of workers in Ukraine again. In addition, it should be borne in mind that retail is developing in Ukraine, the transport and logistics sector is expanding, so these industries will increasingly need new workers, and they are also actively lured to EU countries.

According to recruiters' forecasts, this deficit will only increase in the coming year. & # 171; At the end of 2021, it was people of working specialties that were most in demand among Ukrainian employers. Therefore, I suppose that this trend will continue in the next year, especially for narrowly qualified personnel of working specialties & # 171; — says Elena Kirilyevnina, head of the department for work with partners at Jooble. & nbsp;

Based on the experience of 2021, this year we can expect a demand for representatives of such blue-collar occupations without special education and even experience, such as porters, storekeepers, sales managers, sales consultants and security guards. These employees were at the top of employers' requests in 2021.

Such conclusions are also prompted by the forecast of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, according to which in 2022 GDP growth in Ukraine will remain at the level of 3.5%. This means that the economy will need additional labor. Well, if we take into account the open borders and the turnover of workers, migrant workers, the forecast for the shortage of blue-collar professions is obvious.

Salaries will grow & nbsp;

Perhaps one of the most important criteria when choosing a job is the material side of the issue. This is confirmed by a survey conducted by the job search site Jooble: today, 84.8% of job seekers consider the level of salary the most important criterion when choosing a job.

That is why recruiting specialists are confident that salaries will go up. & # 171; On average, the increase can be up to 10-15%, and in industries with a shortage of personnel — and up to 20-25%, — says Elena Kirilievnina. — & nbsp; But this will still not be enough to cover the median salary expectations of job seekers. Since now applicants, on average, want to receive 20-30% more than employers are willing to offer them & # 171 ;.

Back in the fall, many employees asked to increase their salaries by 30%. Employers, in turn, make a compromise to keep the scarce workforce. They have agreed to raise wages by 20% for representatives of many blue-collar occupations starting from the new year, but for office workers the allowance will still be 10-15%.

Further growth of wages in the market will be facilitated by the increase in the minimum wage in December last year, and the increase in the salaries of teachers, as well as the announced increases in doctors and civil servants. Thus, these increases will lead to a revision of salaries in related professions.

According to the consensus forecasts of the Ministry of Economy, in 2022 the average salary in Ukraine will be 15 & nbsp; 778 UAH/month. Well, those companies that are not ready to raise salaries will seek a compromise by cutting functional responsibilities or working hours. Thus, providing an opportunity for their employees for additional income.

& # 171; You can definitely expect consistently high salaries in 2022 in consulting, construction and real estate, among government officials. Representatives of the following professional spheres can also count on a salary above the average level: art and media, mining of raw materials, insurance, jurisprudence, marketing, advertising and PR & # 171; — predicts the head of the expert-analytical center grc.ua Ruslana Berezovskaya.

They will teach at work

Two years of the pandemic have shown the flexibility of Ukrainian workers. As soon as quarantine restrictions appeared, people began to move from stagnant areas to those that were actively working and developing. To do this, employees had to additionally learn something new or completely re-profile.

& # 171; Already now we see that in industries that suffer from quarantine restrictions, people are trying to either find additional work, or completely change the industry. As a result, the demand for re-profiling and online training among job seekers will also grow, — says Kirilyevnina. — & nbsp; In addition, do not forget about the constant digitalization of processes, which means that the requirements of employers to the level of computer literacy of candidates and their skills to work with various software products will also grow & # 171 ;.

But this does not mean that all computer illiterate employees will be fired and new ones recruited. Recruiters note that today companies have become more careful with their employees. Now it is easier for them not to look for ready-made specialists, but to use an internal resource and train proactive full-time workers in additional skills. & # 171; Today companies are actively using reskilling and upskilling programs — retraining and acquisition of new skills by the company's specialists & # 171; — says Ruslana Berezovskaya.

Moreover, even at the interview stage, applicants will be tested for their ability to learn and retrain, since life-long leaning will be among the top skills in the labor market until 2030.

Agree on hybrids

Despite the fact that the predictions about the inefficiency of the remote work format did not come true, in its pure form it still did not take root on the labor market. According to Jooble, the number of searches for remote work compared to 2020 in 2021 decreased by 10%. Translators, call center operators, accountants, software testers and educators persist in their desire to stay remote. Employees from other fields prefer a hybrid work format. & nbsp;

Moreover, employers in 2021 more actively offered remote work, the number of offers from them increased by 17% compared to 2020. Such a ratio of supply and demand in the labor market suggests that today it is increasingly transforming into a hybrid work format that combines face-to-face and remote formats.

& # 171; This trend will gain more popularity among those companies whose activities can be transferred online without sacrificing performance. For production, for example, such an option, of course, will still be impossible or only partially possible. For example, office workers who are not directly in production can be sent home by the employer. For the other part of workers who work with their hands or operate machines directly in the shops, there are no options for remote work yet & # 171; — says Elena Kirilyevnina. & Nbsp;

According to the recruiting portal grc.ua, only 59% of job seekers agree to work full-time in the office. & # 171; Such preferences of job seekers will force employers to be more flexible and listen to the wishes of their employees in order to retain talented brains and working hands & # 187; — Ruslana Berezovskaya believes. & Nbsp;

In her opinion, the main reason is that people began to perceive the time spent on the road to work and back, differently. They began to appreciate it more and want to spend it profitably. Now, in big cities, the first thing people look for is work closer to home. And companies, in order to retain employees and attract new ones, offer them not only a hybrid work schedule, but also the opportunity to work in a coworking space within an acceptable distance from home. Thus, there is a compromise between the desire of employees to work in comfortable conditions from the home office and the desire of the employer to seat everyone in their workplaces in an open space.

Social initiatives and support of psychologists

The main reason why employers are not satisfied with the remote work format is the decrease in corporate activity among remote workers and the loss of social ties. But due to the fact that employees stubbornly refuse to return to the office full-time, most companies are forced to invest substantial money in the development and acquisition of programs that allow them to further digitalize processes and establish internal corporate communications online.

In addition, , new corporate rules are constantly being developed, which are adapted to the format of remote work. International corporations today increasingly set themselves the goal of organizing the work of personnel in such a way that employees not only associate themselves with a particular company and brand, but also understand how they can improve the lives of future generations by implementing social initiatives of the enterprise.

Another trend of the pandemic era — people began to burn out quickly due to the fact that stressful situations in the workplace are becoming more and more. This affects the work of the entire company, which is why corporations are increasingly introducing programs to support mental health of their employees. & # 171; One of the main trends in the coming year will be the massive introduction of mental health programs in Ukrainian companies & # 171; — Ruslana Berezovskaya notes.

Competition between job seekers will grow

The remote work format, on the one hand, will expand the geography of job search, because now it is not necessary to move to a big city to get a job in a leading large company. It is enough just to show yourself on a test task and you can work in a remote format. But, on the other hand, these changes have increased the competition between job seekers for & # 171; delicious & # 187; positions. After all, if earlier only the most risky and unburdened people decided to move, now you can live in one place, and work in another, without unnecessary body movements. & Nbsp;

Thus, in large cities there are enough IT specialists. And although the market is not yet full of them, there is no acute shortage either. And this trend is reflected in the salary, which is unlikely to be raised this year. So, according to the recruiting portal grc.ua, only 4% of companies are ready to pay programmers of the highest category of senior level from 139 thousand UAH/month. The salary of beginning IT specialists and middle-level specialists is not too high — within UAH 31,700.
