The era of centenarians: people can live up to 180 years

The risk of death increases steadily from the age of 50, but slows down by the 80s.

The results of a statistical study conducted by Canadian scientists have shown that a person's life expectancy can reach 180 years, Chronicle.info reports with reference to Focus.

Researchers on the problem of life expectancy believe that at the end of this century, people will be able to live up to 130 years, and super-longevity — up to 180, which is much longer than previously expected.

Now the record for life expectancy belongs to Jeanne Calment, a French woman who died in 1997 at the age 122 years old.

The International Longevity Database, which tracks people who live to at least 110 years of age, notes that the risk of death has risen steadily from age 50, but slows down towards 80. When a person turns 110 years old, the probability of dying next year reaches 50%.

In other words, in some cases, the life expectancy limit of 130-180 years is quite possible, and, according to researcher Leo Belzil, the upper limit life expectancy does not exist at all.

In his annual statistical report, he noted that more and more people are expanding the age limit, which could have significant consequences for society. In particular, spending on medical bills and social benefits may increase, because in old age people are usually prone to serious illnesses.

Now more than ten people in the world are over the age of 110.

Life expectancy professor Eileen Crimmins at the University of Southern California says the cost of healthcare will increase by several orders of magnitude in the future.

She notes that significant efforts will be required if we want people to be alive and well. It will be incredibly expensive: you will need to replace the knee and hip joints, cornea, heart valves, etc.

& # 171; We can probably do this, it is tantamount to keeping an old car in working order. But in the end the person will still die & # 187; — explains the professor.
