Belarusian anarchist Andrei Kazimirov was released from custody in Moscow. He is accused of participating in «mass riots» in Belarus

A court in Moscow has released from jail the Belarusian anarchist Andrei Kazimirov, who is accused in Belarus of participating in «mass riots» after the 2020 protests. This was reported to Novaya Gazeta by Kazimirov's lawyer Illarion Vasiliev.

«He was released on January 10 due to the expiration of the 12-month detention limit, which expires on January 14,»

— said the lawyer. The prosecutor's office petitioned to appoint Kazimirov a preventive measure in the form of a ban on certain actions, but the court refused.

22-year-old Kazimirov was detained in Moscow on January 14, 2021 and placed in pre-trial detention center-4 in Moscow. In April, the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia satisfied Belarus's request for the extradition of the anarchist. The ECHR has banned the extradition of the anarchist to Belarus under Rule 39 on emergency measures.

Under Part 2 of Art. 293 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (participation in «mass riots») Kazimirov faces up to eight years in prison. The criminal case was opened after protests against fraud in the presidential elections in Belarus.
