MOSCOW, 13 Jan. The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) does not give consent to the participation of players of the National Hockey League (NHL) in the Olympic tournament at the 2022 Games without the permission of the clubs, the official website of the federation reports. The decision was made in light of an earlier agreement between the NHL and the Players Association League (NHLPA). «Cooperation between the IIHF, NHL, NHLPA and the IOC is vital to the continued success and development of hockey worldwide,» said IIHF President Luc Tardif. «Any action taken by any interested party that jeopardizes this collaboration, «Because last month the NHL Players Association and the league decided not to participate in the Beijing Games, the IIHF will not give consent to the participation of NHL players in the 2022 Olympics in direct violation of their current playing contract with the club. Compliance with player contracts — fundamental principle of the IIHF international transfer rules,» added Tardif.
