Djokovic will not be in detention until interview with authorities


MOSCOW, Jan 14 Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, whose Australian the visa has been revoked, will not be in custody until an interview with immigration authorities on Saturday, Reuters reports citing The Age. Negotiations are currently underway between Djokovic's lawyers and the authorities. Djokovic arrived in Australia to participate in the Australian Open 5 January, and the next day he was placed in an immigration detention, since the authorities did not convince the reasons for the athlete's medical withdrawal from vaccination against coronavirus, his visa was canceled. Four days later, Djokovic was released from detention by court order, but Australian Immigration Minister Alex Hawke retained the right to decide on re-cancellation of the visa. As previously reported, in this case, Djokovic could face a ban on entry to Australia for three years. On Friday, Hawk revoked Djokovic's visa. Djokovic is a nine-time and reigning Australian Open winner.
