File photoMOSCOW, Jan 15 A tsunami threat has been declared in American Samoa due to a volcanic eruption in the Tonga Islands, according to the website of the US Tsunami Warning Center (NWS). Earlier, local news portal Matangi Tonga reported about the eruption Mount Hunga Ha'apai in the South Pacific island nation of Tonga. Authorities have issued a tsunami warning. «A tsunami warning is currently in effect in American Samoa… There is currently a threat of dangerous tsunami waves flooding low-lying coastal areas,» the message reads.
