Orthodox monasteries of Holy Mount AthosATHENS, Jan 16 An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 hit near Mount Athos peninsula, according to the seismological laboratory of the University of Athens. The earthquake was recorded at 13.48 local time (14.48 Moscow time), the earthquake was located at a depth of 10 kilometers, 34 kilometers south-southeast of the administrative center of the monastic republic of Kariye. Three minutes after the first shock was an aftershock of magnitude 4.0 was recorded. There is no information about possible damage yet.
