In 2021, Medvedev reached the final of the Australian Open, where he lost to Novak Djokovic. The Serbian will not compete in Melbourne this year. On Sunday, a court rejected Djokovic's appeal to have his visa revoked. Djokovic currently has 11,015 ranking points and Medvedev's 8,935. Djokovic will lose 2,000 points on January 31 as he fails to defend his title. Medvedev, if he wins the final on January 30, will add another 800 to the current ones, then the Russian will have 9735 points and he will become the first racket of the world.
