ROME, Jan 15 Italian stylist and businessman Nino Cerruti has died at the age of 91, reports newspaper Corriere della Sera. The founder of the Cerruti fashion house was in the hospital of the city of Vercelli in the northern region of Piedmont, where he ended up after a hip operation.

He opened his first boutique in 1967 in Paris. Over the years, Cerruti 1881 and other brands owned by the fashion house have become the epitome of modern classic style and have become known for quality materials and a progressive approach. Nino Cerruti also opened the door to the world of fashion for such future designers as Giorgio Armani and Narciso Rodriguez. Special attention deserves his work for cinema, which has been especially pronounced since the 80s: the heroes of The Silence of the Lambs, Basic Instinct and Pretty Woman are dressed in costumes from Cerruti. In 2000, Nino Cerruti was awarded the title of Companion of the Order of Merit in labor» of the Italian Republic. A year later, he sold his share of the fashion house to an investment fund, keeping the family factory for himself.
