MOSCOW, 17 Jan. A resident of the Kharkiv region offered NATO to place a military base on his land. The corresponding statement addressed to the Secretary General of the Alliance was published by the Telegram channel «Operational Armed Forces of Ukraine». Oleg Marchenko, according to the document, is ready to transfer to NATO for free life use a land plot of 8.13 hectares, located in one of the villages of the Kharkiv region. The statement is dated January 10 of the current years. After the 2014 coup d'état, Ukraine began to persistently pursue a policy of integration with the West. In the wake of these expectations, changes were made to the country's constitution, which fixed the country's course towards the EU and NATO. Former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said earlier that in order to join the alliance, Ukraine will need to achieve a number of criteria, the implementation of which will take a lot of time. Experts believe that Kiev will not be able to claim NATO membership in the next 20 years. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stressed that the further expansion of NATO to the east and the deployment of offensive weapons on Ukrainian territory and in neighboring countries are red lines for Moscow. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in turn, said that NATO is increasing the supply of weapons to Ukraine, where the number of Western instructors has increased. According to the diplomat, this could provoke the Ukrainian authorities «to military adventures,» which poses a direct threat to Russia's security. Moscow believes that the West is trying to create a group of troops near the Russian borders.
