The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case of negligence (Part 2 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code) due to the death of a 30-year-old detainee at the Yuzhny police station in Reutov, Moscow Region. This was reported on the website of the local government department.
The press service of the Investigative Committee said that the man's body was found in the detainee room after the fire was extinguished. The fire is believed to have started due to a short circuit.
“Smelling the smell of burning and discovering a fire, the police took measures to save the man, but they could not open the door to the cell and save the man because of a broken key,” the message says.
The regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs added that the man was detained on January 1 because of the beating of a woman on the street. According to the security forces, he was taken to the police and handed over to the district police officer.
“After some time, the employee smelled burning and noticed smoke coming from the office where the person was delivered. The district police officer took measures to save him, called a team of doctors, and before their arrival provided him with first aid. Arriving doctors ascertained the death of a man, ”the department says. The district police officer was fired «for negative reasons.»
On January 5, REN TV, without specifying the source of information, reported on the death of the detainee: “There was a power surge in the office, after which the lights went out throughout the building. When the policeman went out into the corridor, he saw a fire: he was in the room where the detainee was kept. The man was unconscious. He died despite the help he received.»
