The ECHR refused to send the case on the murder of Natalia Estemirova to the Grand Chamber. Earlier, the court did not establish the involvement of the Russian authorities in her death.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) refused to transfer the case of the murder of human rights activist Natalya Estemirova for additional consideration to the Grand Chamber. This is stated on the ECtHR website.

Sister Estemirova Svetlana asked to send the case for additional consideration. In connection with the refusal to additional consideration, the already issued decision is final.

The ECtHR issued a decision in the case of the murder of Estemirova on August 31 last year. He did not establish the involvement of the Russian authorities in her murder. The Court was satisfied that the Russian authorities promptly launched an investigation. At the same time, the ECHR noted that Russia did not provide a significant part of the case materials, which makes it impossible to say for sure that the investigation of the crime was thorough.

The European Court found that Russia violated Article 38 of the European Convention on Human Rights ( obligation to provide the necessary conditions for the consideration of the case). The court urged Russia to continue investigating the case and ordered it to pay 20,000 euros to Estemirova's sister as compensation.
