MOSCOW, Jan 18 Iranian boxer Mohammad Javad Wafaei-Sani sentenced to death executions for participating in the protests, according to a Norwegian NGO for human rights in Iran. The boxing champion of the city of Mashhad was detained in February 2020. He was convicted of setting fire to and destroying government buildings, including a government prison, during protests in November 2019. Wafaei-Sani's lawyer Babak Paknia said on Twitter that he intends to appeal the court's verdict. In September 2020, wrestler Navid Afkari was executed. Iranian judicial authorities stressed that he confessed to the murder case. However, in the West, they believe that the participation of the fighter in the protests and riots that took place more than two years ago played a role.
