However, the Northern Sea Route needs to work «in one window,» Likhachev believes. «That is, a ship has entered — you need to understand exactly how reliable it is in terms of technical ice characteristics, and at any time of the day or night in real time you need to understand its location and plans and problems if they exist,» he explained. According to the director general, at a meeting with First Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Belousov, the departments agreed to hold a large session in February-March on the redistribution of duties on the Northern Sea Route. At the end of last year, on the NSR due to difficult ice conditions stuck almost two dozen merchant ships. The operation to free them took two weeks. As the head of Rosatom noted, the captain and crew of the Vaigach nuclear-powered icebreaker will be presented with state awards for successfully escorting a convoy of eight vessels through the ice. Since 2018, Rosatom has been the infrastructure operator of the Northern Sea Route.
