MOSCOW, 18 Jan. Russian citizens bought almost 5.4 thousand apartments and houses in Turkey last year, which is 75% more than in 2020. RBC writes about this with reference to data from the Turkish Institute of Statistics. «Russians have retained third place among all foreigners buying apartments and houses in this country,» the publication reports. Citizens of Iraq and Iran were ahead, who bought 10 and 8.7 thousand residential properties, respectively. According to Sergei Volchenkov, development director of the Tolerance real estate agency, the Russians took advantage of the significant depreciation of the Turkish lira at the end of 2021. November and December saw their highest activity on the market. The expert also connected the choice of Turkey with tourist popularity and the existing program for obtaining investment citizenship. The resort Antalya and Alanya became the main regions for buying housing. Mersin is also gaining in popularity.
