In the Irkutsk region, the former prisoner of correctional colony No. 15, Yevgeny Yurchenko, was transferred to pre-trial detention center No. 6 in the city of Angarsk, where he had previously spoken about torture. This was reported to Novaya Gazeta by the human rights activist of the In Defense of the Rights of Prisoners Foundation* Petr Kuryanov.

The transfer from one pre-trial detention center to another was motivated by investigator Aleksandra Kornev by the need to conduct investigative actions against Yurchenko in a “torture case”, in which the young man became the first victim, the human rights activist said. Last February, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case in connection with the torture of prisoners in the Irkutsk region, at the same time several employees of SIZO-6 were suspended from work.
The fact that Yurchenko would be transferred to SIZO-6 became known to the family of a young man a few days ago, Kuryanov clarifies, but official information about this decision was received only today. At the same time, according to the human rights activist, the investigator had previously stated that he was “not planning anything.”
At the end of December, the court sent Yurchenko to SIZO-2 in the city of Bratsk on the case of the production and sale of narcotic substances (parts 3 and 4 of article 228.1 of the Criminal Code). Lawyer Dana Adamova said that the young man is under constant video surveillance, but does not complain about the conditions of detention. “The employees of this pre-trial detention center do not show any negativity. According to Yevgeny, the situation is normal and calm,” she clarified.
Yurchenko himself, according to the Taiga.Info portal, considers his case a provocation by the GUFSIN officers in the Irkutsk region and prisoners collaborating with the administration.< /p>
