January 19, 2022 marks exactly 13 years since the murder of lawyer Stasnislav Markelov and Novaya journalist Anastasia Baburova. They were shot on Prechistenka, near house number 1, when they were walking to the Kropotkinskaya metro station after a press conference. Stas died on the spot, Nastya two hours later in the hospital. …To the house number 1 everyone could lay flowers and candles on Wednesday evening, the procession was not allowed.
And the next morning, January 20, there was a trial. It concerned the murderers of Markelov and Buburova: neo-Nazis, members of the banned organization BORN Nikita Tikhonov and Evgenia Khasis. The Moscow City Court, we recall, in May 2011, on the basis of a guilty verdict of the jury, sentenced Tikhonov to life imprisonment, and his accomplice to 18 years. Billings, wiretapping, recordings from surveillance cameras — everything testified not in their favor, but they denied the whole process of guilt.
Caught up in the colonies (Khasis — in Mordovia, Tikhonov — beyond the Arctic Circle),
both confessed to the murder, telling in detail how they planned and how they killed, and also extradited the remaining members of the gang. allegedly went with violations.
We caught on to an interview with one of the former jurors, Anna Dobracheva (she recused herself and refused to participate in the hearings), who claimed that people who put pressure on the rest of the jury were allegedly introduced into the collegium. True, the woman coincidentally gave an interview to a journalist who had previously acted at the trial as a witness for the defense of the defendants and wrote articles in their favor. class=»SingleImage_image__3qIDn» alt=»» />

In February 2021, the ECHR concluded that the Russian court did not fully consider Dobracheva's statements and did not take steps to verify her words (at the same time, Strasbourg considered it unnecessary to pay compensation to the convicted).
And now at the end of 2021, the Supreme Court resumed the criminal case due to new circumstances and sent it for review to the cassation. What is important: it was the Supreme Court that went to the cassation, because at the time of the verdict, the cassation instance in the Moscow City Court, as it is now, did not exist.
“Hi!” Tikhonov greeted Khasis with his hand with a smile. He was on video link from the colony. Shaved bald, in a black robe, but not at all changed in appearance. She did not answer and generally kept a low profile, unlike herself 11 years ago: in the Moscow City Court she was more sociable and emotional. It also did not change at all in appearance, only a green robe replaced jeans and a jacket. Before the start of the meetings, Tikhonov and Khasis never once said a word.
Today he is 41, she is 36. They are already older than not only themselves, but also Stas and Nastya, who are forever left at 34 and 25.
