Podolyak noted that Turkish leader Tayyip Erdogan perfectly understands the situation in the region and the motives of both the Ukrainian and Russian sides. According to the adviser, Moscow does not feel its negotiating position as really strong, and the proposal for negotiations rests on this. «The same answer about the Minsk agreements to any questions, including those escalation steps that are being taken by Russia and to the detriment of the same Minsk agreements,» Podolyak believes. Ukraine, he added that this indicates Russia's uncertainty about its rightness, so it allegedly refuses a more flexible diplomatic game, locking itself in a «deaf position». As it became known on the morning of January 19, Tayyip Erdogan invited Putin and Zelensky to Turkey to discuss problems and resolve disagreements. Commenting on this proposal, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that if Ankara can influence Kiev and push it to implement the Minsk agreements, this cannot but be welcomed.
