Papua New GuineaMOSCOW, Jan 21 Papua New Guinea abolished the death penalty, and all those sentenced to death in this country will be transferred to life imprisonment without the right of amnesty for 30 years, the local newspaper Post Courier reported on Friday. According to it, the Death Penalty Act of 1984 in Papua New Guinea was repealed murderers, rapists, robbers, as well as those accused of treason. There are 14 such criminals in the country, two of them are on the run, Post Courier writes. They are still alive because the local criminal system was deprived of the «administrative mechanism», «infrastructure» and «protocols» for the execution of death sentences. Hanging was the only method of execution in Papua New Guinea.
