Khersonka accidentally gave birth in Germany: she was billed for 90 thousand euros

Ukrainians should carefully study the documents to avoid surprises while traveling.

A resident of Kherson Alena Shevchenko, who went with her husband on the desired trip to Europe, gave birth during a sightseeing tour. The woman was 7 months pregnant, she felt well and could not even imagine that the birth would be premature. Another shock for the family was the bill issued to them by the clinic, reports the Chronicle.info with reference to TSN.

As reported, traveling at the 30th week of pregnancy is the first mistake of the spouses.

«Traveling far at such late stages of pregnancy is quite risky», notes the obstetrician-gynecologist of St. Mary in Amberg (Germany) Natalia Shtefyuk.

So, from Lvov, the couple went by tourist bus to Krakow, then to Dresden. We celebrated the New Year in Paris and headed to Prague. But Alena started having contractions on the bus.

The bus stopped at the gas station and a helicopter arrived with a doctor and a mobile team. The woman gave birth to a daughter.

While the happy mother is in the clinic of the German city of Amberg, the father is already in Kherson. The man is still stunned by the amount that was announced in the clinic.

«We bought a tour for 700 euros, and could pay for 90 thousand», says the husband of the woman in labor, Roman Shevchenko.

Ukrainians would have to pay for the services:

  • medical helicopter — 10 thousand euros;
  • delivery and 10 days of resuscitation — 35 thousand euros;< /li>
  • the stay of a premature baby in the hospital is 1.5 thousand euros per day.

They could not raise such money even if they sold all their property, says Alena.

Fortunately, the delivery was taken by a doctor from Ukraine. Obstetrician Natalia Shtefyuk realized that the young family also needed to be saved from a debt that was growing every day. Therefore, together with her husband, a fundraiser was organized.

«We turned to various organizations, in the city of Amberg, to volunteer organizations, to charitable organizations in Germany», she says.

Fortunately, the authorities of Amberg came forward. The bills will be paid from the city budget. But this is an exception, experts in the tourism business say.

«Our tourists travel abroad, they hope that either the tour operator will somehow tell them, or in any situation they will help with money. But this does not work in Europe, as it does in any other country», — warns the Deputy Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine Volodymyr Tsaruk.

The second mistake of the spouses is that they did not take into account that their travel insurance covers the risks for pregnant women only up to the 28th week. It is the risks, not the birth itself.

«Not just pregnancy, but complications during pregnancy, planned medical events or even childbirth, etc. — they are not covered», the expert notes for insurance, lawyer Roman Bordzilovsky.

To avoid surprises while traveling, Ukrainians should carefully study the documents, and especially pay attention to insurance.
