White House building in Washington, USAWASHINGTON, Jan 21 The US will set out in a written response from Russia her concerns about her actions and ideas about how both countries can strengthen «the sense of security of each other,» said White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki. She confirmed that a written reaction to the Russian initiatives would be provided next week, and expressed hope that this will be followed by another meeting between Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.Biden said what the US would call Russia's «invasion» of Ukraine»We'll put down to paper…the serious concerns we and our allies and partners have about Russia's actions, as well as ideas on how we could actually reinforce the feeling each other's security,» Psaki said at a White House briefing. «There are a number of steps that we could take that are being discussed,» she added, referring to transparency and risk reduction measures, arms control initiatives. She reiterated that the United States will not compromise fundamental principles, including «the sovereign right of the people of Ukraine to write their own future.» NATO allies refuse Russia's demand for guarantees of non-proliferation of the alliance to the east, including at the expense of Ukraine. At the end of 2021, Russia published draft treaties with the United States and agreements with NATO on security guarantees. Moscow, in particular, demands from its Western partners legal guarantees of refusing further eastward expansion of NATO, joining the Ukrainian bloc, and establishing military bases in post-Soviet countries. On January 10, Russia and the United States held a round of dialogue on strategic stability in Geneva. It was followed by a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council in Brussels and consultations at the Vienna site of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
