In Makhachkala, Magdy Kamalov, the founder of the Dagestan newspaper Chernovik, was detained during a picket in support of his colleague Abdulmumin Gadzhiev. This is reported by the publication itself.

According to the newspaper, Kamalov stood with a single picket at the intersection of Gamzatov and Dakhadaeva streets — not far from the buildings of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB. Chernovik journalist Gadzhiev has been in jail since June 2019. He is accused of participation in a terrorist organization and financing of terrorism.

According to the investigation, from 2011 until his arrest in 2019, he published articles in the newspaper about charity in the Ansar Foundation, associated with the preacher Israil Akhmednabiyev, and columns that “prompt readers to abandon the secular lifestyle.”

In addition, the investigation believes that the journalist deliberately did not mention that «part of the funds collected by the Ansar Foundation were directed to continue the activities of a terrorist organization operating in Syria.» At the same time, the second defendant in the case said that he testified against Hajiyev under torture.
