Latvian MP calls accusations of spying for Russia nonsense


RigaRIGA, Jan 24 Accused of spying for Russia, Latvian Seimas deputy Janis Adamsons called the accusations leveled against him are nonsense. «Naturally, I do not admit guilt, this is nonsense,» Adamsons said in a short telephone conversation with journalists from the de facto program of the Latvian Public Television (LTV).The Prime Minister of Latvia assessed the likelihood of a war between Russia and NATODeputy Adamsons was detained on June 10, 2021 on suspicion of spying for Russia, after the Seimas stripped him of his immunity. On June 11, by a court decision, he was arrested. Together with Adamsons, a citizen of the Russian Federation Gennady Silonov and the former head of the investigative department of the KGB of the Latvian SSR Andris Strautmanis were detained. All three are suspected of spying for Russia. After the arrest, Adamsons left the Harmony party. On January 5, Adamsons was released on bail in the amount of 30,000 euros.
