Roman Protasevich released from house arrest. Now he works for a pro-government “human rights center”

Co-founder of the Belarusian opposition telegram channel NEXTA Roman Protasevich left the place where he was under house arrest and got a job at the Systemic Human Rights Center, founded last year by pro-government activist Dmitry Belyakov. Protasevich himself spoke about this during a live broadcast on Belyakov's channel.

“Indeed, I just left the place where I was under house arrest, and for quite a long time. <…> Of course, it is very difficult to socialize and adapt when you have been isolated for a long time, when there has been virtually no contact with other people for a long time. <…> First of all, I will now be engaged in my main work, I will begin to deploy some kind of media activity at the Center for Systemic Human Rights. This is probably my main and main plan for the near future,” he said.

Protasevich also said that he had concluded a pre-trial agreement with the investigation in his criminal case. Whether he complied with it will be decided by the competent authorities. In addition to working at the center, Protasevich is also going to restart his telegram channel Sprava.

Center «Systemic Human Rights» Belyakov registered on October 12 last year, notes «Mediazona. Belarus». The pro-government activist, in particular, claimed that migrants turned to him for help during the crisis on the Belarusian-Polish border. In addition, on January 21, on the telegram channel of Systemic Human Rights, a message appeared about the filing of an application with the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague «with a request to initiate a criminal case under the article «On genocide and crimes against humanity» against refugees from Poland and Lithuania.»

Protasevich ended up in Belarus after a Ryanair plane flying from Athens to Vilnius on May 23 last year made an emergency landing at Minsk airport due to reports of alleged “mining” at the request of Belarusian dispatchers and accompanied by MiG-29 fighter. On board, along with Protasevich, was a friend, a Russian citizen Sofya Sapega.

At first, Sapega and Protasevich were sent to a pre-trial detention center, but later they were released. This happened after Protasevich gave an interview to Belarusian state TV.
