KYIV, Jan 24 The British Embassy in Kiev remains open and will continue to operate, it said on Monday British Ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons. Earlier, the British Foreign Office reported that the UK began withdrawing part of the embassy staff in Kiev and their families against the backdrop of an allegedly possible aggravation of the situation in the country.

From January 23, the US State Department allowed the voluntary departure from Ukraine of part of the employees of the American embassy in Kiev and members of the families of diplomats because, as they say in Washington, «the continuing threat of military action from Russia.» The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said that they consider it premature the decision of the US State Department on the departure of family members of American diplomats and the voluntary departure of part of the embassy staff in Kiev. The US Embassy in Kiev will continue to operate fully.
