The military in the West African Republic of Burkina Faso has announced that President Roque Marc Christian Kabore has resigned. Al Jazeera writes about it.
On television, the military also announced that the government was dissolved, the constitution was suspended, and land and air borders were closed.
The statement said that the seizure of power in the country was carried out without violence, and the detainees are in a safe place. Al Jazeera notes that the statement was made on behalf of the previously unknown Patriotic Movement for Protection and Recovery (MPSR).
“The MPSR, which includes the entire army, decided today to relieve President Kaboré of his powers,” the movement said, noting that the country’s security situation had deteriorated, and Kaboré had failed to unite the nation and respond effectively to new challenges.
The Pan-African portal LSI Africa reported that the Kabore family left Burkina Faso amid a military mutiny. At the same time, he himself remained in the country under protection.

AFP, citing a statement by the ruling Popular Movement for Progress party in the country, reported that an unsuccessful assassination attempt had been made on the president.
