Kazakhstan power grid operating company KEGOC sent out a letter on January 21 to 196 cryptocurrency mining organizations warning of power outages until February. This is reported by the Information Bureau.

KEGOC explained what is happening by the fact that «the situation remains tense with maintaining the balance of electricity and capacity in the UES of Kazakhstan.» Miners have been cut off from electricity since January 24th and “while maintaining the current situation”, this will last until January 31st.
President of the Association of Blockchain and Data Center Industry in Kazakhstan Alan Dorjiev, in a conversation with the publication, expressed the opinion that problems with electricity are mostly related to infrastructure, and not to miners. “Our entire system is on the brink, the depreciation of the stations is more than 70%, the age of the stations is about 40 years on average in Kazakhstan. Electricity prices have always been contained and the industry has remained seriously underfunded. And the miners, in fact, became at some point an excuse for KEGOC and the Ministry of Energy,” he said.
