A man walks past a screen in Seoul broadcasting a report of a North Korean ballistic missile launchSEUL Jan 25 The Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea recorded the launch of two shells from the DPRK towards the Sea of Japan, Yonhap reports, citing military sources. Presumably, these were cruise missiles. Pyongyang's similar actions were last reported in September 2021. According to journalists, unlike ballistic missile launches, cruise missile tests do not violate UN Security Council resolutions. Therefore, the South Korean military usually does not notify the public about them. The DPRK has already conducted four weapons tests this year that violate resolutions. So, according to Seoul, on January 5 and 11, North Korea tested hypersonic missiles. Later, on January 14, Pyongyang launched two short-range ballistic missiles from a railway missile system, and on January 17, two tactical guided missiles of the same range.
