Police Commissioner Cressida Dick said an investigation is ongoing into possible violations committed since 2020. It was launched after receiving information from a cabinet commission chaired by official Sue Gray. Dick added that the police will look into cases that «seem to be the most serious and egregious violations.»
Johnson himself said he «welcomes» the police's decision to investigate and said that it «will help give the public the necessary clarity ”.
The investigation was also supported by London Mayor Sadiq Khan. “No one is above the law. There cannot be one rule for the government and another for everyone else,” he said. Deputy head of the Labor Party Angela Rayner said that Johnson should resign because of what happened.
