Food prices in Ukraine will continue to rise: how much you have to pay for bread, eggs and butter

The share of energy costs in bakery production will increase from 5-7% to 15-20%.

There is a steady upward trend in prices on the food market of Ukraine. Almost all food products will rise in price in the future, reports the Chronicle.info with reference to RBC-Ukraine.

Prices will rise

According to the predictive estimates of scientists «Institute of Agrarian Economics», in the first half of 2022, the upward trend in prices for the main types of meat — beef, pork and poultry meat — by at least 15-20%.

The average price of 1 kg of bread is now about UAH 30.65, which is 23% higher than last year. In the near future, the share of the cost of energy resources in the production of bakery products will increase from 5-7% to 15-20%. Taking into account the inflationary factor, this will lead to a further rise in the price of bread and bakery products by 10-25%, according to the forecast.

The fall in global oilseed production in 2020 led to a rapid increase in world prices for oil and meal, which was reflected in the domestic food market, where the price of sunflower oil increased by 85%. At the beginning of January 2022, it cost an average of 61.43 UAH/l.

A gradual increase in the selling price of sunflower seeds is expected, which will affect the growth in the price of sunflower oil. According to the scientists of the Institute of Agrarian Economics, by August 2022 this type of agricultural products may rise in price within 20% — up to 75 UAH/l, scientists noted.

Borscht set has doubled in price

According to scientists from the Institute of Agrarian Economics, the cost of borscht in January 2022 was more than 2 times higher than in January last year.

Further price increases are expected in the first quarter of 2022 — depending on the type of vegetables — by 15-25% against the prices of the beginning of 2022. Prices for greenhouse vegetables in Ukraine may rise sharply in the winter-spring period of 2022.

«The price jump is expected to be so tangible that for a large part of Ukrainian low-income consumers, fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers during this period will be practically inaccessible», — noted the head of the pricing and agricultural market department «Institute of Agrarian Economics» Inna Salo.

The price in the consumer market of potatoes has remained almost stable over the past five months. However, given the trends of past years in the winter-spring months of 2022, a further increase in the price of potatoes — up to 35%, the message says.
