The Lefortovsky District Court of Moscow limited the adviser to the head of Roskosmos, the ex-journalist for Kommersant and Vedomosti, Ivan Safronov, who is accused of treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code), and his lawyers in terms of familiarizing themselves with the case materials. In accordance with the court decision, lawyers and Safronov must familiarize themselves with the materials before February 11. Pavlov noted that this is about 10 thousand pages of text. “The Safronov case will certainly go down in history as a case of unprecedented and unscrupulous pressure on both the accused and the lawyers,” the defender said. Safronov's relatives and journalists were not allowed to attend today's meeting, the First Department notes.
The FSB investigator Alexander Chaban filed a petition to limit Safronov and defense lawyers in terms of studying the case. He did this in accordance with Part 3 of Art. 217 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. It is applied if the defense delays the process of familiarization with the case materials and does it intentionally.
Lawyer Dmitry Katchev said that «the investigation is in a hurry to take the case to court and wants to be in time before April 7.» On this day, Safronov's arrest expires.
