MOSCOW, 26 Jan. The Federation Council has supported a law providing for life imprisonment for repeat pedophiles. As a result, it will apply to:
- —recidivist pedophiles who abused children under the age of 18 (previously up to 14);
- —cases where two or more children were victims;
- —situations where this is associated with the commission of another grave or especially grave crime.
Corresponding amendments will appear in articles 131 («Rape») and 132 («Violent acts of a sexual nature») of the Criminal Code of Russia. the investigation of these crimes will be within the competence of the employees of the Investigative Committee. knocked off ten yearsThe initiative to toughen the punishment was submitted to the State Duma in September after the tragedy in Kisel Evsk, Kemerovo region, where 41-year-old Viktor Pesternikov, previously convicted of pedophilia, raped and killed two ten-year-old schoolgirls. The suspects were found in a local hostel, where the child's body was located. The detainees confessed to the rape and murder.
