Debt share down 8.7 percentage points.
Share public debt in December amounted to 2.36 trillion hryvnia, or 86.61 billion dollars. This is about 45.2% of the country's projected GDP, the Ministry of Finance says, Khronika.info reports with reference to Channel 24.
Ukraine's national debt in 2021
Total public debt (internal and external) at the end of 2021 year amounted to 2.67 trillion hryvnia, or $97.95 billion. According to the results of last year, the share of debt decreased by 8.7 percentage points.
Of the total amount of public debt in 2021, domestic and external debt amounted to:
- 45% is domestic debt (government bonds).
- 55% is external debtconsisting of loans from international financial organizations (24, 7% of total government debt), Eurobonds (26.5%) and other external debt.
The ratio of total debt to GDP fell to 51.1% in 2021 (assuming nominal GDP in 2021 in the amount of UAH 5.2 trillion).
Recallthat Ukraine ended 2020 with a total debt of UAH 2.6 trillion, or $90.25 billion. The public debt of the total amounted to 2.3 trillion hryvnia, or 79.9 billion dollars, that is, 53.9% of nominal GDP.
How the size of the public debt changed in December 2021
In December, the state and state-guaranteed debt of Ukraine increased in hryvnia equivalent by UAH 113.3 billion. This happened due to attracted financing from the IMF and IBRD and the growth of the state domestic debt.
Pay attention! The share of public debt in the national currency as of the end of December 2021 is 40%.
Attraction to the budget from the sale of government bonds
In December, the Ministry of Finance held 27 auctions to place government bonds, thanks to which 74 government bonds were attracted to the budget .9 billion hryvnia. Public debt repayment payments for January-December 2021 amounted to:
- 441.1 billion hryvnia — repayment payments.
- 150 billion hryvnia — service payments.
