The European Union is ready to impose sanctions that will cause serious damage to the Russian economy.
The European Union is preparing for a possible halt or reduction in gas supplies to Europe. This was stated by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, reports the Chronicle.info with reference to RBC-Ukraine.
According to him, the EU is considering various options, supporting Ukraine. This also takes into account options if Russia cuts or even stops gas supplies to Europe.
«We are prepared in case diplomacy fails and we are considering all options. This includes increasing our resilience, including by working with partners such as the US, Qatar and Azerbaijan on the issue of gas supplies in the event that Russia decides to cut or stop supplies», — writes Borrell in his blog.
He also noted that the European Union is ready to impose sanctions that will cause serious damage to the Russian economy and financial system and is not going to retreat in the issue of supporting Ukraine.
«The European Union will not withdraw its support for Ukraine's sovereignty, its territorial integrity and its right to self-determination. Ukraine — our partner and neighbor: her security — this is our safety», — the statement says.
